Staff Profile: Dr. Patrick Hogan

This August, Regina Dominican welcomed twelve new faces to the faculty, one being Latin teacher, Dr. Hogan. Dr. Hogan attended an all boys military academy for high school. After high school, Dr. Hogan got his bachelor’s degree in classical studies from Lawrence University and his Ph.D. in classical studies from University of Michigan. After completing his degrees, Dr. Hogan taught at multiple colleges and universities, such as University of Michigan, Hillsdale College, and Hope College.

Additionally, before Regina, Dr. Hogan taught middle and high school students as well as doing translation work. Dr. Hogan decided to apply to Regina after seeing an advertisement online, and accepted the position only a few short weeks later.

According to Dr. Hogan, Regina is different than any other school he has taught at previously because it is the first single-gender school he has taught at, but also because Regina girls are very well-behaved and interested in their classes.

However, unlike most Regina girls, Dr. Hogan says his favorite part of the day is getting ready every morning. He enjoys setting up the classroom and getting prepared for the classes he will teach that day. In addition to teaching his classes, Dr. Hogan says the events he is most looking forward to is the Fall Musical and the Black and White Gala. When he is not teaching, Dr. Hogan likes to travel around the world – with Greece and Paris being his favorite places he has traveled to thus far.

When asked to describe himself in one sentence, Dr Hogan said “I am passionate about Latin and Greek.”
