On Sept. 26, Regina Dominican had its annual raffle kick off.   The raffle lasted for 4 weeks. This year students raised money to go towards new bleachers in the gym.

Each week there were one or two collection days, where students could hand in any tickets that they had sold. Each student was asked to try to sell at least 5 books at $30 each, in order for the school to raise enough money to reach their goal of $40,000.  Students who sold all five of their books got a pink band and were then allowed to be out of uniform.

Additionally, prizes were given at various times throughout the raffle.  For example, the highest selling advisories received a pizza party, which was won by Mrs. Lindsay-Deddens advisory.

The final collection day was Oct. 20; however, students were allowed to turn in whatever last tickets they sold on Friday morning. In order to show school spirit, each grade level dressed in a theme.  Freshmen dressed in their pajamas, sophomores in tie-dye, juniors in USA apparel, and seniors as Risky Business attire.

During the morning of the Pep Assembly, the seniors held a tailgate in the parking lot where they ate breakfast, took pictures, and bonded with one another. Students and faculty gathered later Friday afternoon, in the gym, for a special Pep Assembly to celebrate fall athletes and to hear the final raffle awards and if the school would get a day off for reaching the $40,000 goal.

At the Pep Assembly, fall sports, which included: volleyball, swimming, tennis, golf, and cross country were recognized.  Ms. Reilly, the special events and administrative coordinator, announced the top sellers in the school, the faculty who won the raffle, the top seller in each grade, and the individuals who won the grand prizes.

Ms. Locher won the teacher raffle and received a $50 gift card to Old Orchard Shopping Center. The top sellers in each grade were: Nora Clancy ’20, Asia Harris ’19, Nina Menon ’18, and Julia Rottman ’17. Each student received a $50 gift card to the Gina Shop.

The prize pull winners, who sold 5 books or more, were McKenna Barrett ’20, Stephanie Zalinki ’17, Lisa Spaniak ’20, and Isabela Valdez ’20. The tops three sellers in the school were: Nina Menon ’18, Murphy Weiland ’18, and Katie Clancy ’18. All three girls received a gift card to Old Orchard. Nicolette Anichini’s ’20 grandmother, Shirley Laskowski, won the grand prize of $5,000.00.

The top selling grade was the juniors with a tremendous 129% participation, second place was the freshmen with 91% participation followed by the seniors with 90% participation. The sophomores finished strong, too with 83% participation.  All in all,  97% of the school sold their tickets.

The school raised a total of $41, 636.50, which met the goal, so students and faculty will have the Monday after Thanksgiving off.
