New Twist to This Year’s Career Day

Wednesday, March 15, Regina Dominican held its annual career day. It was quite a day. This year the theme was, “Focus on Yourself to Focus on Your Future.” Health and wellness professionals along with faculty and students  facilitated informative, interactive, and educational sessions.

Topics ranged from art therapy to mindful meditation, feng shui to the effects of pets on mental health. Experts in areas of martial arts, drug and alcohol prevention, and pure barre lent their talents and insights into their professions.

Throughout the day, students moved to different classes and areas with their advisories to either hear presentations, panel discussions,  workout, or even meditate, create art or pet a dog or bunny.

Even though we had a lot of new faces on this day, we had some returning alum giving presentations. Returning alum included: Sarah Becker ’13, who is currently  at Loyola University. Vicki Clancy ’13, senior at Marquette University. Ashlee Henderson and Kristen Connolly ’14,  Saint Louis University. Brigid Broderick ’15,  a sophomore at Illinois Wesleyan. Laura Fino ’16 at Carroll University, Karima Figeroa ’16 at Loyola University, and Jessica Wollney ’16 at Saint Louis University.

Also presenting were fellow Regina Dominican students:

Rachel Lucas, “Praying through the Arts”
Gianna Sparacio, “Self-Love and Self-Care”
Addy Donahue, “Power of the Brain”
Heather Van Vleet, “Recognizing the Problems of Addiction”
Helena Walo and Murphy Weiland, “Perseverance and Mindset”
Bella Adams, “How to Help Your Friends Cope With Loss”
Nina Menon, “Positive Mental Health through Technology”
Ellie Murphy and Riley McInerney, “Suicide Prevention”
Gracie Simon, “Dress to Impress”
Caroline Baubonis, “The Effects of Pets on Mental Health”
Katie Clancy, “Panic Attacks: How to Help Yourself and Your Friends”
Grace Tamisiea, “The Chemistry Behind Mental Illness”
Vivienne O’Bryan, “The Importance of a Smile”

The day went from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Students enjoyed learning about careers that focused on wellness and mental health. As the theme suggested, in order to focus on others, you need to also focus on yourself.
