Loved Ones React to Matthew Perry’s Death

The death of Matthew Perry, 54 was confirmed by Capt. Scot Williams of the Los Angeles Police Department’s robbery-homicide division.  On Oct. 28, 2023, Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub after he went  to take a swim. Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office released Perry’s autopsy results on Dec.  15, 2023.

“Contributing factors in Mr. Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder). The manner of death is accident,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement.

Perry’s death shocked many of his loved ones, as well as his fans. Many immediately took to social media to express the grief and sorrow they felt from this news.  

The cast of friends, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer  shared a joint statement to People Magazine stating, “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.“In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.” 

Along with the joint statement, the cast of friends also took to social media to pay tribute to Perry each giving him a heartfelt post sharing with the world how much they will miss their friend.

The creators and executive producer of “Friends” released an emotional joint statement as well saying, “We send all our love to his family and friends, this is truly The One Where Our Hearts Are broken.” 

To “Friends” lovers all around the world the statement made by the creators and executive producer are emotional given that each episode of “Friends” starts with “The One” and the show is where millions of fans fell in love with Matthew Perry and his character, Chandler Bing, the witty and sardonic twenty-something, that he’ll always be remembered for.

NBC, which is the channel that aired “Friends,” shared a statement on Facebook stating, “Perry brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his pitch perfect comedic timing and wry wit.” The channel said as well, “His legacy will live on through countless generations.” 

Fans took to social media reposting the posts  of the “Friends’” fposts.

Many  shared their own grief in posts from X, formally known as Twitter such as: 

“I was not ready for friends cast goodbye posts for Matthew Perry.” 

“Just started crying you will forever be loved and missed Matthew Perry.” 

“I love #matthewperry Chandler was an amazing character”I just finished his book. I can’t help but think he never saw his light, his worth, or the positives, only the negatives in his life. Everyone stay positive, you are enough, worth it, loved! Stay positive!”

These are only some of the tweets from X, formally known as Twitter.  It is undeniable that Perry had an enormous impact on his loved ones and millions of fans.

His memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Things, published in 2022,  especially showed the raw, real him and caused many readers to be inspired by how Perry was able to conquer his problems with addiction as well as how the people around him were able to help him. Perry wasn’t just an actor or a writer but an inspiration to many who could relate to him through his issues which helped many people with their addiction issues as well. By sharing his story he helped so many others. He will truly be missed.
