Improved Peer Tutoring Program Introduced

This year, changes have been made to the Peer Tutoring Program. With the new program, tutors will be more accessible than ever. Students are able to attend tutoring sessions before school, during study periods, and even receive help during some classes.

Patricia McDonell, academic dean, Patricia Caine, Psy.D., Nereida McGrath, National Honor Society, NHS, moderator, and Brianna Cairns, National Spanish Honor Society, NSHS, moderator are all working together to improve the Peer Tutoring Program.

“We want to make sure tutors are being adequately used during tutoring sessions. Instead of only being positioned in the library, tutors will be able to attend classes, and serve as teacher’s aids. With this new program, we want to bring the tutors to the students,” said McDonell.

“Tutors will be easily accessible. Since tutors are beginning to sit in on classes, we hope that students will feel more comfortable asking for help,” said Caine.

“I’m very excited about the new program. I love getting to know the students I tutor, and I get to refresh myself on material while helping them, said Elizabeth Reese ’15, NHS member.

“The new program is more advanced this year. I hope that the new program will attract more students to come ask for help with their classes,” said Mikaela O’Malley ‘15, NSHS member.

“The tutors seem very happy about the changes, because they will be utilized to their fullest potential. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the benefits that the new program brings to the school,” said Caine.

“We want to make this program something that all students can take advantage of. Students do not need to be struggling to receive help, it can also serve as a way to find a study partner,” said McDonell.

All students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to receive additional academic support.
