How The Grinch Stole Christmas

The 2000 movie adaption of How the Grinch Stole Christmas features comedic superstar Jim Carrey as the grumpy Grinch who lives on Mt. Crumpet overlooking Whoville, the perfectly happy town whose enthusiasm for Christmas and the spirit that comes with it, is simply too much for the miserable Grinch to bear.

Soooo, the sinister Grinch plots to steal Christmas from Whoville by stealing every Christmas present, tree, and ornament simply because he cannot phantom one more year of all of the Whos in Whoville spending Christmas in cheers, chants, or celebration.

The film, alas, does not live up to the original children’s book written by Dr. Seuss nor the 1966 animated version made classic by the actor Boris Karlov. The audience’s sympathy for the Grinch in the 2000 movie simply comes too late and by then who wants to keep watching the movie. Some scenes are a little too racy for the little kids who would want to watch the film. The settings are too flashy and the characters wear so much make-up, especially with those disgusting noses, along with elaborate costumes that all becomes too distracting from the simplicity and beauty of the script.

Although Jim Carrey tries his hardest to save the film, no one, not even little Cindy Who from Whosville, can save this film from its own misery.
