Being healthy while eating out is difficult. However, there are always healthy options to choose if you know where to look. Here are a list of popular restaurants and healthy options that you may be unaware of. I am by no means a nutritionist, but these are some of my recommended choices that I enjoy.

Buffalo Wild Wings

What to get:  Buffalo Wild Wings is (obviously) known for their wings, but they also have a great veggie burger. By choosing this option, you are getting your fill of veggies while also avoiding the sugary sauces and saturated fats in the wings. If you want a side, you can get the veggie boat. Try to avoid the blue cheese sauce and stick with the fat free ranch dressing and save about 370 calories.

Chipotle

What to get: Chipotle gets a bad reputation for its recent bacteria scares and some unhealthy choices. However, if you choose wisely, you can get a filling, nutritional meal. The flour tortilla alone is 300 calories. A better option is the burrito bowl. The chicken is 180 calories where as the sofritas are only 145 calories. Go for brown rice and add black beans to add 11 grams of protein to your meal. The tomato salsa is low in calories and packed with vitamin C. The corn salsa has 0 saturated fat and trans fat but surprisingly has 4 grams of protein.

The Cheesecake Factory

What to get: The skinnylicious menu offers a variety of low calorie meals. The skinnylicious fresh vegetable salad is filled with veggies. It has asparagus, green beans, tomato, cucumber, roasted beets, apple, edamame, radicchio, romaine and white cheddar all chopped with pomegranate vinaigrette. Low cal, and delicious.

Panera Bread

What to get: A lot of Panera’s items are full of carbs. Get the low fat vegetarian black bean soup. Its 230 calories and has 17 grams of protein! However, it has a tremendous amount of sodium, which is hard to avoid especially in soups.

Olive Garden

What to get: Don’t eat the breadsticks! They have 140 calories per serving, which adds up . The Minestrone soup has 110 calories per serving, with only 10 calories from fat.

Panda Express

What to get: Unfortunately, much of the food is high in calories and sugar. For smaller portions go for the kids menu. Get the kids menu mixed veggies (entree)  with a side of brown rice.

What to get: #6 The Veggie is my favorite. Skip the bread and you will still have a great sandwich. Get the unwich and save yourself some carbs. This sub has avocado, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. You could order it without mayo or put it on yourself for a smaller portion. I would recommend sprouts.

Potbelly’s

What to get: Potbelly’s has a really great mediterranean sandwich. I like this choice because it is some what unique and always delicious. Get the mediterranean on multi-grain thin-cut bread. My personal preference is to skip the cheese and the meat, which also saves you a lot of calories. The toppings are artichoke hearts, hummus, roasted red peppers and cucumbers. You can also add avocado. The way I order it makes it only 310 calories with 13 grams of protein and zero trans fat and cholesterol.

Noodles & Company

What to get: BUFF Japanese Pan is a great option if you like spicy food. Its only 320 calories with 29 grams of protein. Watch out for the sodium, though. It has 100 calories from fat and 7 grams of dietary fiber.
