Regina Dominican’s Film Club is a way for students to travel the world, go to fantasy lands, and even see a town called Halloween– all without leaving the campus.

The club began in the 2013-2014 school year and was started by four students: Emily Bochenek ’16, Deanna Stone ’16, and two alumni, Kathleen Rock ’15 and Emma Ellis ’15.

The students combined forces to make a more diverse and popular film club. Advising the club are Ms. Eichler and Mrs. Houston, who share a love for movies.

Moderator Ms. Eichler shares her favorite aspect of Film Club: “Just getting to hear the different things that people are interested in, because I know the type of movies that I like and what I want to see. I sometimes wonder if that’s not necessarily going to be things that you guys might be interested in, but then it turns out that you are!”

The movies chosen try to cater to a wide variety of tastes and genres. Some examples of movies shown at Film Club meetings are Forrest Gump, Tangled, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

You might be wondering how the officers pick the movies that Film Club watches, and it is a very simple process. The officers meet with the advisers and establish a theme for the month’s meeting. For example, in October the theme was Halloween and the film chosen was The Nightmare Before Christmas.

A new addition to the Film Club this year is combining with different clubs to watch movies together. International Club joined Film Club for the October screening, and it was a great way for students to meet other film lovers.

Ms. Eichler says her favorite movie that the Film Club has watched is, “Oh, probably Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, you know, Chicago and John Hughes, you can’t go wrong!”

Film Club meetings are as simple as they sound, anyone who wants to watch a movie can come to Room 113 for a screening of a movie that is chosen by the officers. While the movie plays, movie-goers are encouraged to bring snacks to share with their friends or munch on complimentary popcorn.

Film Club is a great way to spend time with friends and even make a few new ones!
