New England Patriots win Super Bowl 51: Feb. 5
The New England Patriots played against the Atlanta Falcons in the NRG Stadium located in Houston, Texas on Super Bowl Sunday. The Patriots scored 34 points to the Falcons 28. The game was won in overtime.
Trump’s Travel Ban Rescinded: Feb. 16
After going to court with the state of Washington, Trump’s Department of Justice rescinded the travel ban put on the seven countries of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Trump has stated that a new executive order regarding further border protection from these countries will be released soon.
NASA Discovers New Planets: Feb. 22
NASA has discovered seven new, earth-sized planets that revolve around a single star. Scientists believe some of the planets may be habitable because all of the planets contain water. However, only three planets have been confirmed to be habitable.
New Orleans Parade Disrupted By Vehicle: Feb. 25
A driver drove a pick up truck down a street where Mardi Gras festivities were in place. The alleged driver was said to be intoxicated and terrorism was ruled out as a motive. In total, 28 people were injured, some serious, but none fatal.
An Eventful Night at the 89th Academy Awards: Feb. 26
On Oscar Sunday, actors, actresses, directors, and the like gathered at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, CA to celebrate a year of brilliant artistry in film. Host Jimmy Kimmel started the night off with a monologue that touched on the political side of modern day America. The night ended with a mix-up in envelopes that caused La La Land to be mistaken for Best Picture. However, the mistake was fixed and the Best Picture went to the true winner Moonlight.
