Vaporwave: The Music Genre You Haven’t Heard About
Vaporwave is an obscure music genre that is trendy with a cluster of internet-savvy millennials. This new style of music is as interesting as it is confusing. The music combines 1980s and 1990s elevator music, clips from VCR movies, neon colors, Windows 2000, Japanese culture, and tropical environments and this is only just scraping the surface of this blend of music.
Where did it come from?
Many believe that musician, composer, and producer Daniel Lopatin is the original creator of Vaporwave. Lopatin produced Chuck Person’s Eccojams Vol. 1 in 2010, which to many Vaporwave fans is the first known Vaporwave album. After its release, Vaporwave spread through sites such as soundcloud, youtube, Last.fm, 4chan and Bandcamp.
Where is Vaperwave now?
In 2015, MTV rebranded its image, which many say was inspired by vaporwave. The genre is on the rise and continues to be popular among many millennials. Watch the YouTube video below to get a taste of the Vaporwave style and see if you will become a fan of this new trend.
