Regina Dominican Booster Club’s 27th annual Golf Outing took place on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Wilmette Golf Club.
The Booster Club is composed of parents and members of the Regina Dominican community. Together they work to contribute support to the athletic department– hoping to provide the best experience for the student-athletes. They also assist Regina by helping at events, including Back-to-School night, and open houses.
Several students volunteered at the golf outing. The girls drove around on golf carts selling raffle tickets for the evening raffle, as well as selling squares on a poster board for different prizes such as tickets to the Chicago Cubs game, gift certificates to the Chalet, and even tickets to win a pizza oven. Donors signed their names on a square on a grid, and the winning square was picked randomly at the end of the night.
Mia Facchini, a senior volunteer at the outing said, “After attending the golf outing for three years now, this was my first year filling the whole board. It’s so great to meet and interact with all of the parents and supporters of Regina.”
This year was a particular success. “The funds and expenses are still being tabulated, but the event raised more than $28,000 to directly support Regina students, staff, and parents. This was about 20% higher than the previous year’s event. People really opened their hearts– and wallets– for Regina,” said Conan Kisor, the Booster Club’s vice president.
There was an air of excitement and a lot of smiles from the participants on the course.
Bob Newton, head coach of the varsity basketball team, said: “It’s always fun when you associate with people that are enjoying themselves.”
Overall, it was a great day for golf and giving.
