Baby got back-hand! The Regina Dominican tennis team this year has been serving aces and winning match after match.
The tennis team has a strong roster this year with a total of 17 girls making up the varsity and junior varsity squad. PJ Weiland, mother of Kirby Weiland ’17, coaches junior varsity, and Ellen Cordell is the head coach. The varsity team is led by captains Kirby Weiland ’17 and Miranda Radtke ’17. The team practices every day when they aren’t playing  a match at the Wilmette Tennis Courts, just down the street on Locust.
During their matches, the varsity plays the best 2 out of 3 sets, and each set has six games each. The junior varsity team typically plays an 8 game pro-style set. This season, the team has been doing very well in their conference. They even beat long-time rival Resurrection on September 24.
Elizabeth Hancuch ’17 says, “Public schools are typically tough opponents, but we do really well against teams in our conference. We’re 3-1 in conference for Varsity, and two of our JV players got 2nd place in the GCAC.”
Varsity’s conference tournament is this Saturday, October 10, and their sectional is Saturday, October 17. We wish them the best of luck as their season comes to a close!
