Some Fashion Items Never Go Out of Style
There are several fashion statements that beg the question “what was I thinking — I can’t believe I left the house like that!”
Surely enough, the next generation laughs about how crazy the style was back in the day, but over time they also begin to pick up on the trend.
Recently my sister and I were looking at old photos albums, and of course we critiqued the fashion choices of the people in them. We couldn’t help but point out the fact that my mom and all of her friends had perms. My mom replied to this by saying, “Just you wait! It will come back in style.”
My mom’s response reminded me of the times she defended her high-waisted jeans and oversized glasses, all of which have made surprising comebacks.
This got me to thinking, why does everything seem to come back in style? Fashion is a vicious cycle.
Suddenly your mom’s dorky, old fanny pack that you would beg her not to wear in public has become a coveted vintage statement. I bet you never thought you would live to see that day. I guess some things just never go out of style (although maybe they should!)
What’s next? Leg warmers, shoulder pads, your guess is as good as mine.
The popularity of certain music styles also seems to surge over time. For example, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s new breakout song, Uptown Funk has become an instant hit. It has catchy lyrics and upbeat tune that you can’t help but dance along to. Funk music was prominent in the 1970s, but the success of this song indicates that people want to hear more.
It is strange to think that the next generation might consider yoga pants and Ugg boots as edgy, and perhaps future music artists will mimic the work of Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga. Only time will tell.
