Soccer ‘Kicks’ Off
Kyle McClure, head soccer coach, returned with two new assistant coaches for the 2015 season. Director of Marketing and Communications, Katie Pins as well as Northwestern student, Nick Brito joined the coaching staff. Brito played on McClure’s travel team years ago and is excited to coach along side him. This is Brito’s first year coaching.
“It’s a bit of a struggle to get the girls to see me as an authority figure because of the age difference but I love it so far. I cant wait to see what this season has in store for us,” said Brito.
Pins was an assistant coach two years ago and is enthusiastic to come back.
The Panthers welcomed a few new faces to the team this year. Grace Spiewak ’15 and Catherine Baubonis ’15, decided to try out for the team for the first time their senior year.
“I was very excited to try something new with a lot of great people. It just seemed like a fun way to finish out the year,” said Spiewak.
Six new freshman also joined the varsity team and have been given some heavy playing time. Murphy Weiland ’18 and Lauren Pogaznik ’18 are starters for the Panthers.
“I’m very excited about this season!,” said Katherine Strenk ’15. “I think we have a lot of potential and talent on this team. Plus we always have fun!”
Strenk is a four time varsity starter and captain for the Panthers this year. Her co-captains include Erin Pins ’15 and Maggie Palmer ’15.
The Panthers started out their season 2-2 defeating Holy Trinity and Immaculate Conception. They have a tough schedule ahead of them including schools such as Loyola Academy, St. Ignatius, and Mother McAuley.
“I like starting the season playing some really talented schools. With a new coaching staff and eight new players, we can see very quickly what works and what doesn’t work,” said Pins.
The Panthers are ready to take on any challenge they may face this season and we wish them the best of luck!
