It’s always nice when there is a new face to see in the hallways. This year one of the five transfer students is senior Sophia Lowe.
Lowe is a senior transfer that formerly attended Saint Ignatius College Prep. At Saint Ignatius, she was involved in volleyball and rowing, however, she eventually left rowing because of the time commitment and difficulty.
After her sister graduated from Saint Ignatius, Lowe and her family felt that there was nothing keeping her tied to the school, and Lowe wanted a change of. She chose Regina Dominican because a friend of her family went here and always had great things to say about it.
“They always talked about how amazing it was to go to an all-girls school,” Lowe said.
Lowe finds that the biggest difference between Saint Ignatius and Regina is the sense of belonging; she said, “I think that the community at Regina is tighter.”
At Regina, she is part of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Panther Pep Club, D.E.I, and she is on the varsity volleyball team. When she was contemplating transferring, she was hesitant because she didn’t want to be the stereotypical “New Girl,” but instead Sophia found that she was welcomed by her peers.
She finds that at Regina she can be herself and be accepted by everyone. “I wish I would’ve come sooner,” Lowe said.
Outside of the classroom, Lowe likes to hang out with friends, play volleyball, and volunteers at an organization called Off the Street Club, a community youth center offering boys and girls a safe place. Lowe said about Off the Street Club, “It’s just really fun. I want to bring it to Regina.”
At the end of school and everything else she participates in, Lowe goes home to her parents and dog– Teddy. Lowe’s dad has always been the one to push her out of her comfort zone, and he helped make her into the person she is today.
Like most seniors, Lowe is kept busy by applying to colleges. Some of the universities she is interested in include: University of Miami, Wake Forest University, and The University of Tampa. a After college, Lowe plans to continue her education to continue with medical school. Her ultimate goal is to become a dermatologist.
For now, though, she is excited to see where Regina takes her for the remainder of her senior school year.
