One of the most iconic sporting traditions is the annual game when Regina Dominican plays against Resurrection High School regardless of the sport. Recently, the Panthers battled against the Bandits in volleyball, one of most competitive sports for both Regina and Res.
Due to Regina and Resurrection’s highly competitive nature, each school’s student section dresses up in costumes and colors based on a predetermined theme. Last year, Regina came dressed for a “pink-out.” This year, Panthers came dressed in denim and covered in yellow paint to embrace their inner minion, as seen in the hit film Despicable Me.
Senior Kylie Hammer came dressed as Regina’s Gru, senior Ceci Palumbo appeared with a neon orange jumpsuit as Vector, and senior Edna Gomez gallivanted through the gym in a royal cape as King Bob. Other students participated in the festivities by dressing as Margo, Edith, and Agnes, Gru’s three daughters, and Dr. Nefario, an evil scientist. Most Panthers, however, dressed as a mob of minions.
The Regina student section cheered with minion themed chants in support of Regina’s volleyball players. Panthers chanted “Vector” and “King Bob” when the Regina athletes got a kill and block, respectively. Additionally, they chanted “Banana,” while senior Izzie Christiansen danced while dressed up in a banana suit.
While the varsity athletes may not have won the close battle against the Bandits, the Regina Minions-themed student section was on fire all night!
