Meet Coach Speth!
Ms. Speth is the cheerful, kind person you have probably seen coming to and from the admissions office, or maybe coaching the Lacrosse team . She attended Evanston High School and then played goalie for the University of Massachusetts women’s lacrosse team.
Q: What were you like in High School?
A: I was pretty nerdy and quiet in high school. I went to Evanston High School which was huge, but I had a small group of close friends that I hung out with when I wasn’t playing lacrosse or Irish Dancing. I was in the small minority that loved going to school. I loved going to class, doing homework, and crushing projects and tests. I didn’t do it on purpose, but I was totally the “teacher’s pet” type.
Q: What is it like teaching/working in a all girls environment?
Q: Do you have any funny or embarrassing stories from high school? If so please share.
A: High school is just such an awkward period for everyone, but I am the queen of embarrassing moments. My personal favorite was on a cold rainy day my freshman year. I was walking into school and a car drove through a puddle and soaked me head to toe. Normally, I wouldn’t care because everyday I looked like I had just rolled out of bed, but one of the boys I had a crush on (there were many!) was standing 10 feet away and saw everything. He took pity on me, reached into his lunch bag and handed me a hot pink cocktail napkin. I promptly used it to daintily pat myself dry, but the hot pink dye leaked from the napkin and died my face and clothes pink. It was quite the look.
Q: What music do you like?
A: I’m not a huge audiophile so I don’t know anything about music and will listen to just about anything. I do really like Guster, Band of Horses, I Fight Dragons, but, currently, my favorite song is Cheerleader… I seriously cannot hear it enough.
Q: If you could invite 3 people ( dead or alive) to dinner who would you choose?
A: Sarah Bullard, All World US Lacrosse National Team Member, Jennifer Lawrence (but only if she came in character as Katniss), and my grandmother on my father’s side. She passed before I was born and would have really loved to meet her.
Q: If you weren’t doing this job, what would you do?
A: My first love has been and always will be coaching and playing lacrosse. I think I would try to start my own club team and grow the game across the country. It’s an amazing sport that I love sharing with everyone.
