Meet Mr. Luzwick, an English teacher at Regina and does a great Blake Shelton impression. Below are a few question and answers to get to know Mr. Luzwick better. Welcome, Mr. Luzwick!
Question: What college did you go to and what advice would you give to current seniors?
I did my undergrad in theater at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. I received my Master of Arts in Teaching at Deerfield’s Trinity International University. I am now attending Westminster Seminary in California to receive my Masters in Divinity. My advice to current seniors would be to develop good study habits now. Do not take a lot of student loans to go to a certain college. Also, work on your faith and relationship with God now.
Where did you previously live and what did you do?
My wife is in the navy so we move around a lot. Right before Chicago, we lived in San Diego, CA. Before I was a teacher, I was a youth minister.
What do you do in your free time?
I love to listen to music. I love to read and play any sport. Spending time with my family is huge.
What is your favorite type of music and why?
Music that tells a story. I appreciate when songs are written like good books. I like anything that leads to the gospel. Songs that are thought-provoking and have intelligently written melodic lines.
What did you want to do when you grew up?
I wanted to be a professional baseball player.
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing?
I really love working with teenagers. I would probably go back to youth ministry. I am inspired by working with young people helping them find out what their purpose is in life.
Do you have any funny embarrassing stories from high school?
I have a really embarrassing story from my freshmen year of college. When I went away to college, the first week I was there, I went to the gym and then went back to my dorm room. I walk into the hallway of my dorm room and there’s a full length mirror on the side of the wall. I had just gotten done with my workout and I’m flexing my muscles in the mirror being the so full of myself teenager I was, and then I realize wait there is no full length mirror in this dorm. The lights were bouncing off a window creating a reflection. Oh no! I run and hit the lights. Sure enough, there was a group of girls walking by laughing their heads off at me.
If you could bring three people to dinner, who would they be and why?
I would bring my wife, my son, and my unborn son. We have the best times together as a family. Also, I have not met my new son; yet, so I am anxious to meet him.
The world is ending, what would your last meal be?
A gigantic pepperoni pizza with extra sauce.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go and why?
I would love to go visit Jerusalem, the holy land. Maybe go and travel the route of the Apostle Paul. It would give me more of a context for the stories in the Gospel.
