Junior Abigail Farmer’s Sports Passion is Playing Rugby
Meet Regina Dominican junior, Abigail Farmer! During her time at Regina, Abbey has been known for playing many sports here. She is a tennis manager, basketball player and during the spring, she plays soccer. She enjoys participating in these sports, but the sport she has the most passion for is rugby. Rugby, which Abbey has been playing since fifth grade, is a contact sport that is often compared to a combination of football and soccer.
When describing her passion for this sport Abbey says, “I just love the immense amount of sportsmanship that surrounds the game. Everyone, no matter what team always has respect for each other and never holds grudges after the game.”
Abbey got inspired by Rugby by her dad. He encouraged her to play on his own team. Her dad began playing rugby in college, and still continues to play today. Growing up, her dad coached a middle school team, which her brother played on as well. She plays rugby for the club CRC Valkyries (Chicago Rugby Club) which is a high school girls team.
Interestingly enough, Abbey played on an all-boys team until her freshman year of high school, and she’s happy that she can finally play on all-girls team. She plays for the Illinois-State Team, the Tornadoes, and toured with the all-midwest team- the Midwest Thunderbirds.
Abbey has won many awards with the teams she’s made and played with. During her freshman year, she was the only girl from Illinois who played and toured with the Midwest Thunderbirds in Florida. Way to go Abbey!
