Mamma Mia
Mamma Mia is the perfect combination of a romantic comedy and a musical. Donna (Meryl Streep), single mother to Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), runs a small inn on the Greek island of Skopelos. The story begins with preparation for Sophie’s wedding. Guests, including Donna’s two hilarious best friends and other family members, arrive at the inn, bringing excitement with them. However, unknown to Donna, Sophie has invited three mysterious guests- her “dads”.
Twenty years ago, Donna spent her summer on the island with three different men, played by Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgard. All three relationships did not work out, and Donna eventually ended up pregnant with Sophie. The main issue was that she did not know who Sophie’s father was. Since then, this question still remains unanswered.
A short time before her wedding, Sophie finds her mother’s diary from that crazy summer twenty years ago. Sophie is curious about who her father is and she realizes how badly she wants her father to walk her down the aisle at her wedding. So, unbeknownst to her mother, she contacts each man separately and invites each to her wedding. Sophie does not expect a reply, but is extremely surprised when all three men show up on the island.
The arrival of the men as well as her mother’s reaction leads to chaos and tons of laughs, mixed in with popular catchy ABBA songs like “Dancing Queen” and of course, “Mamma Mia”. Mamma Mia is a fun, romantic, and sweet movie that I never get tired of watching.
