Panther Basketball Gets Ready for the 2019-2020 Season
This season is sure to be one of excitement, hard work, and fun. With the varsity team coming off a Regional championship in the 2018 season, the 2019 Panther basketball players and coaches are ready to gear up for another dedicated season. The program has been working on improving skills as seen in their tireless work during the offseason through the sports summer camp and open gyms every Sunday.
Both the coaches and players are excited about the 2019 season. Captain Nora Clancy, when asked to comment on the upcoming season, said, “I am extremely excited for the basketball season ahead of us. We have a strong group of girls that want to work hard and get better. All of the returning players are still in high gear coming off our regional championship win. The aspiring varsity players are hungry to get on the team and hit the court”.
Assistant Coach Eliseo Thorens commented, “The team is going to be young, strong, and working hard every day.
The 2018 Regional championship win has been a catalyst for the program to improve and win another title. The impressive example set by the varsity girls last year is a great motivator to the younger teams and many of the returning players are excited to get back on the court. The Panther varsity basketball coaches are Bob Newton, head coach, Joe Fabianski, assistant coach, and Trish Andrew, assistant coach. The junior varsity team is coached by Eliseo Thorens and the freshmen team is coached by Calvin Lloyd.
The Panthers begin their season on November 19 for the freshmen team with a home game against Niles West High School at 5 P.M. The season begins for the junior varsity and varsity on November 21 with home games against Christ the King College Prep with the JV game beginning at 5:30 and the varsity game at 7:00 P.M.
