Gravity
Winning seven Oscars, including Best Director and Best Achievement in Visual Effects, is the movie Gravity. The intense story portrays astronaut Ryan Stone, played by Sandra Bullock, trying to survive in space when the space shuttle she is on is destroyed; and she is left adrift in orbit.
One does not need to love science fiction to enjoy a movie like this. Aside from the space motif, the story holds so much more. At the heart of the movie is a powerful story of love, loss, and how to truly live your life to its fullest.
Bullock was nominated for an Oscar for her gripping performance in the film. Bullock plays a medical engineer on her first flight into space. The plot moves into catastrophe mode when she and two fellow astronauts, played by George Clooney and Phaldut Sharma, are suddenly struck by a debris storm while making repairs. Bullock is the only survivor.
As the story continues, the viewer pieces together the life of Ryan Stone and her inner strength to get herself back to Earth and her young son.
The movie is unbelievable testimony to self-perseverance, courage, and survival.. The visual effects are striking. The stillness of the film and the vivid cinematography that engulfs the viewer is light years ahead of its time. Gravity is spellbinding and one of the best movies of the decade.
