Engineering Class Attends University of Illinois Open House
On March 10, the Regina Dominican Principles of Engineering class along with Mrs. Locher and Ms. Cairns traveled to the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana to attend the annul Engineering Open House (EOH).
This year’s theme of the Open House was “Illuminate New Horizons.” The EOH is sponsored by university engineering students. Each year, the open house, held over two days, is led by the university’s engineering students. College students view student exhibits and see various competitions that university students participate in.
At the open house, Regina Dominican students had the opportunity to view exhibits for several types of engineering such as electrical, mechanical, agricultural, physics, chemical, and civil. . Some of the exhibits that the students enjoyed included the cement crushing in the Talbot Lab, 3D printers in the Digital Computer Lab, and the Grainger Engineering Library.
In addition, Ms. Cairns’ friend, Brian McGuigan, gave a brief tour of the engineering campus, so students could see the some of the college’s facilities. They ended the day by walking around the campus.
Overall, the field trip to the University of Illinois was a very beneficial way for students to see not only one the top engineering programs, but take a look at possible engineering careers as well as view the campus.
