On April 11, Dr. Sally Blount, Dean of Kellogg School of Managment at NorthwesternUniversity, spoke to the Regina Dominican community on the bridge between faith and leadership.

Before becoming dean in 2010, Blount was the Dean at New York University’s Stern School of Business.

At Northwestern University, Blount has made enormous progress in strengthening Kellogg’s brand, setting high fundraising records in raising money for the school’s seven year Transforming Together Campaign. Part of the campaign included the construction of the business school’s Global Hub building, a 415,000 square foot education center. The Global Hub includes an atrium, auditorium, flexible classrooms, student lounge, and conference center.

At the evening’s forum, Blount described that she things did not come easy for her. She related how she had to work extremely hard in school in order to receive her Ph.D. in Management and Organization from Kellogg in 1992. Additionally, Blount had to manage raising her children, while working hard at her job.

Despite the many obstacles Blount has encountered in her career and personal life, faith has always been important to her. Faith has specifically helped her push through during the difficult times of her life.

Blount also explained how faith and leadership are related because good leadership is all about allowing God and the Holy Spirit to guide one to guide in doing the right thing . By opening oneself to God, Blount explains that one can become mindful to the needs of others and can then serve as a leader for others in way they see best fit.

Overall, Dr. Sally Blount’s talk was inspirational and provided an incentive to the Regina Dominican community that anyone can do anything they put their mind to and that, without a doubt,  the power of leadership and faith go hand in hand.
