DIY Christmas Gifts That People Actually Want
Through constant Christmas songs on the radio and garland around the neighborhood, everyone knows by now that tis’ the season. Christmas day is fast approaching, and giving gifts to loved ones is better than receiving them for lots of people.
Handmade gifts are the most thoughtful and caring, but where’s the line that separates handmade tchotchke and something that a friend or family member would actually want to receive?
The best way to figure out what to give someone is asking yourself two questions: Would I want this? Does this fit their personality?
Everybody is different, but here are a few Do it Yourself Christmas gifts that I would like to receive.
1: Terrarium Kit: All you need is a mason jar, pebbles, charcoal, soil, and your choice of plant (preferably succulents). Buy or re-use a mason jar of any size. Line the bottom with pebbles, then charcoal, then enough soil to fit the plant of your choice. Plant what you like, and leave the top off for oxygen and sunlight. To go all out, get a ribbon and gift tag to attach a heartfelt note, which are always appreciated, and violà.
2. Art Mug: One of these mugs can be as simple or complicated as you wish. Buy a ceramic white mug, paint pens of your choice, and create pictures, lettering, or designs or your choice. To keep the paint on, you can paint over the pens with clear nail polish.
3. Peppermint Candy Sugar Scrub: You will need two cups of white granulated sugar, and then mix in in a 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup almond oil (coconut oil will work too). Add the oil slowly till you have a nice consistency that is soft but not too oily. After that, add a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Separate the mixture into two equally-sized containers, and add red coloring to one. Next, find a jar of your choice and layer the red and white (but same) mixtures in the jar so it looks candy cane-esque. it is refreshing, softening, and smells like Christmas and happiness.
Use these ideas to your advantage and give gifts that are creative and classy. These are honestly fun to do as well, so if you aren’t making them for someone else…make them for yourself! Self gifts are nice too. Merry Christmas!
