Patti Fuentes: A Leader Who Knows How To Listen and Multitask!
How would you describe your leadership style?
I would describe my leadership style as warmly assertive. I know what needs to get done, however I like to give my co-workers the autonomy to put their spin, ideas, and creativity into a project.
Describe the most important quality, value, or characteristic trait that you feel is most essential to be an effective leader.
To be an effective leader, you have to listen to what other people are saying. You will not always agree with that person, or their ideas; however, if you are engaged and open to what they are saying you gain a tremendous amount of perspective.
What is the hardest part of being a leader?
The hardest part about being a leader is multitasking… at times. In the Admissions Office you have seven plates spinning at one time and when one plate starts to “wobble,” you have to get that plate back on course, so there can be some juggling. With that, I am not afraid to ask for help. The support I receive from our administration, faculty and staff is tremendous.
What is the best part of being a leader?
The best part about being a leader in our school community is working with all of the students, new and returning, and watching them become confident young women ready for college. The girls at times, might not see themselves transforming, we see it every year. If you took a students freshmen picture and held it up to their senior portrait the transformation is amazing, add in all that they have accomplished and participated in during their four years, it is really amazing.
What person, famous or not, has had an impact on you as a leader? Tell us about it.
This is an easy answer: my father, Bill Haeger Jr. He shared everything he knew with me and my siblings about his business, life experiences, mistakes and successes. He was a real, genuine, hard working person who was open to ideas (no matter how crazy the idea seemed at the time). He was also a good listener.
What advice would you give Regina’s graduating seniors?
I would give graduating seniors this advice: if you didn’t get involved in high school, you have a second chance to while in college! By all means put yourself out there and get involved. Most importantly, finish your degree; no one can take that college diploma away from you!
