Santa Clarita School Shooting

On November 14, 2019, a gunman killed two innocent high school students Grace Ann Muehlberger and Dominic Blackwell. The students attended Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California. The gunman also injured three other unnamed people. When the attacked occurred, students ran outside of the school and ran to nearby streets. This vicious attack on the Santa Clarita brings up the heated discussion on gun control and gun reform. There was a vigil that following Sunday night to remember Grace Ann and Dominic. The vigil brought over 10,000 people to celebrate the lives of innocent students. Madi, a survivor of the attack, expressed that she was not surprised about the shooting.

A quote said by Madi in a CNN article explains, ” ‘Of course it was very hard, and a dramatic experience. But with the state of America right now, with gun control not being struck enough, with kids being able to access guns so easily, it didn’t surprise me.’ ”

Venice Flooding

On Tuesday the 12th, Venice, Italy has seen its heaviest flooding in 53 years. The city of Venice called for a state of emergency when the flood occurred. The tide levels were six feet tall and the water flooded most of the city’s streets.

An excerpt from CNN explains, “The popular tourist destination was struck by an exceptionally high tide on Tuesday night, which peaked at 187 centimeters (73.6 inches), according to a statement by Venice’s government Wednesday morning.”

Venice is a popular tourist attraction due to the numerous historic architecture. The flooding in the historic city brings up concerns about the historic sights and how they were affected. In addition, old painting and murals have flood damage and may not have a chance to be restored.

Racism on Syracuse’s Campus

Last week, four students who attend Syracuse University in New York have been suspended because of racist and anti-semitic comments made towards a fellow classmate. The incident will be going to court because it is considered a hate crime. In addition, racist pictures were being airdropped to students in the university’s library.

Due to the incident, Syracuse students have since used their first amendment rights and protested against racism and hate on Syracuse’s campus. The students expressed that they wish for racist incidents to be treated fairly. The students demanded changes be made on the campus.

According to CNN, “The demands include requiring faculty and staff to undergo diversity training, establishing a housing portal where students can select roommates based on mutual interests and identities, and allocation of $1 million for the creation os a curriculum ‘that educates the campus on diversity issues, specifically anti-racism.’ ”

Since then, the university’s chancellor has come out and said that he has heard the students’ thoughts and will consider their demands.

Michael Bloomberg enters 2020 democratic race

Michael Bloomberg, author and businessman, announced his campaign to enter into the 2020 Democratic presidential race. Bloomberg was the 108th mayor of New York for numerous years. Earlier this year, when asked about running in the race, Bloomberg said that he was not going to join the race.

As for his previous jobs, CNN writes, “A 77-year-old entrepreneur and philanthropist, Bloomberg made his fortune creating technology that bankers and traders use to access market data.” Even though he entered the race late, Bloomberg is confident in his campaign. Bloomberg used to classify himself as a republican but has since switched to the democratic party.

Tesla Unveils It’s New Cybertruck

Tesla is a new car company that solely uses electronic charging in their cars instead of regular gas. This feature is significant in the world of technology because its cars no longer require gas. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, has since urged the population to switch to Tesla due to the fact that it will help resolve the issue of climate change. Since the company has started it has come out with three types of cars, Model X, Model 3, and Model S.

This past week, Tesla has announced its new Cybertruck. The car has caught many people’s attention because of its unconventional geometric shape.
