Still A Shot For Softball Season to End Swinging

The 2015 softball season was led by three seniors: Claire Conroy, Audrey Jahns, and Madison MacBain. Although the team finished with a 3-29 record, there is still a chance for the team to head into Regionals with a win.

According to Karlyn Manley ’16, “We have a good chance of winning the Regionals. We are evenly matched.”

Manley, along with Emily Herberg ’16, are the team’s pitchers. One reason the team has struggled over the season is that the several team players need to switch positions depending on who is pitching. This disruption may give players a chance to try out different positions, however, it does make it hard for them to truly hone their skills in playing one position for the entire season.

Lauren Murphy ’17 said, “Next year we will be guaranteed a lot of play time and we will have a chance to play our solid positions.”

Manley and Murphy both agree that the team needs to work on their hitting, which they will do during their off-season. Most of the players have a hitting coach who will be instrumental in getting the players ready for the upcoming 2016 season.

JV softball finished their season with a 9-7 record. Jennifer Giannos, JV Head Coach and Social Studies teacher, felt the team had a strong season. Giannos said, “We had a great group of players. They reall did well together. They bonded and the team’s biggest strength was their ability to play as a unified team.”

Both teams look forward to next year. Manley said, “Our outlook for next year is pretty good. We have many upperclassmen who will be stepping up.”
