A “Willing Listener” in Principal Meg Bigane

How would you describe your leadership style?
I never work alone, always collaborate with your team. I have had several great professional mentors in my life who have guided my leadership style throughout my career. Leadership can be lonely if you let it but rewarding when you work with others to make decisions together.

Describe the most important quality, value, or characteristic trait that you feel is essential of an effective leader.
You have to be a willing listener—HEAR what others are saying, not just listening. Sometimes it’s not what people say that is as powerful as what they don’t say.

What is the hardest part of being a leader?
Not being able to say YES all the time. Making tough and difficult decisions.

Can you name a person who has had an impact on you as a leader?
Corinne Raven, RSM, she was my first principal when I was a teacher and asked me to consider moving into administration. I was humbled, flattered and owe her so much for teaching, guiding and mentoring me.

What advice would you give graduating seniors?
Do what you love and love what you do. Oh, and my family’s personal motto “You Can’t Beat Fun”
