Meet Ms. Liang!

Dr. Linda Liang is the new Leadership Director of Regina Dominican’s Leadership Institute. Below are some questions and answers to get to know Dr. Liang better. Welcome, Dr. Liang!

What college did you go to and what was your college experience like, any advice to current seniors?
I went to Eastern Illinois University for my bachelors degree in elementary education. Then I went to Illinois Institute of Technology for my masters and Ph.D. I loved college, especially graduate school because you get to take classes that you’re interested in. I learned self reliance and how to be on my own. My advice to current seniors would be that if you get a chance to go away to college it’s a great experience and makes you responsible for yourself. Ask questions and don’t be shy.

Where did you previously live? And what did you do?
I grew up in the city of Chicago and I gradually moved north to Glencoe. Now I live in Lake Forest.

What do you do in your free time?
I play golf. I like to dance and read. I like roller coasters, but I don’t go on them very much.

What is your favorite type of music and why?
I like oldies probably from the seventies because it brings back memories from when I was your age!

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a dancer.

If you weren’t doing this Job what would you be doing?
I love this job. To be honest, this is my dream job. I cannot imagine doing anything else. My other passions include learning about Chicago families from the 1900s, architecture, and house histories.

Do you have any funny or embarrassing stories from high school?
I had never given a speech before and I gave a speech in  class about how smoking causes cancer. The speech was about a research experiment where they had beagle dogs smoking and I was really nervous and instead of saying beagle I said Beatle dogs, and, of course, everyone thought of the rock group, The Beatles. Everyone started laughing.  This helped me relax and my speech was better after that.

If you could bring three people to dinner who would it be and why?
I would bring Mother Theresa, Hillary Clinton and Edith Rockefeller McCormick.

The world is ending what would your last meal be?
Probably veal with lemon butter sauce with mashed potatoes and, for dessert, walnut tort.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I would like to go hiking in the French countryside and see the French chateaus.
