Meet Mrs. Maroor!

Meet Mrs. Maroor!

Meet Mrs. Maroor,  Regina’s  newest religion teacher! We asked Mrs. Maroor a few questions so we could get to know her better. Welcome, Mrs. Maroor!

What college did you go too and what was your experience like?  Can you give some advice to current seniors?
I went to Marquette for my undergrad and University of Chicago for graduate school. I had a lot of fun in college. I went into college majoring in the doctoral program for physical therapy and half way through my second year I realized I hated it! So, I switched over and I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted, but I had taken philosophy and I really liked it and I was pretty good at it.  I switched my major to philosophy and then in my junior year, I added theology to that as well. As for advice, I would say don’t go into college pigeon-holing yourself. I think the best thing you can do is go into college undecided and just explore your options.

What did you do before you came to Regina?
After grad school I worked at the Archdiocese of Chicago Office for Peace and Justice, and then I had my children! I have three children, so I was staying home with them for the past four, almost five years.

What do you do in your free time?
I like to do classical Indian dancing, and I like to read! Recently, I’ve been trying to explore the city a little bit more with my kids, going to festivals and things like that.

What is your favorite type of music? Why?
I like acoustic music because its very calming to me.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
At the earliest age I wanted to be a teacher and then I wanted to be an astronomer. I think those are the two phases I went through, in terms of career choices when I was young.

If you weren’t working at Regina, what would you be doing?
Staying at home with my kids. I think that besides a teacher, being with my kids is the job I love most.

Do you have any funny/embarrassing stories from high school?
When I was in high school I was a major goodie-two-shoes and the last thing I ever wanted to get was a detention. One day I knew I was going to be late to class, so I called the office thinking that if I just called I would be fine. Turns out, that isn’t how that works and I got a detention. I remember being in Miss Bigane’s office (when she was Dean of Students at Trinity College) crying so hard about getting a detention. It was really embarrassing and the detention wasn’t even that bad.

If you could bring 3 people to dinner who would you pick?
G.K. Chesterton, J.R.R Tolkien, and Pope Francis.

The world is ending. What do you want your last meal to be?
Really, really good sushi.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
Either Morocco or Iceland, they seem like beautiful places.
