Best Halloween Movies & TV Shows of All Time

Halloween is the holiday of tricks, treats, and terror. If you love this holiday, indulge yourself in some festive movies. Here are my top five picks:

  1.

Created in 1993 under the amazing direction of Tim Burton, “The Nightmare before Christmas” is a unique stop motion film that has captured thousands of eyes. This attention has caused the movie to become a classic. This movie is different than others, having both Christmas and Halloween themes. However, I believe that this movie is more of a Halloween movie. Since this film was stop motion, it took a total of 3 years to make, shooting 24 frames per second. Every scene actually took one week to fully complete. Jack Skellington, the main character,  has become a very well known character and has been a popular halloween costume for many years since the release of the movie. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is my favorite Halloween movie because Tim Burton has been one of my favorite directors as a kid and the movie is just so weird that it’s hilarious and a bit scary. This is definitely a good movie to see on Halloween night.

2.

The entire Charlie Brown series has become a classic throughout households, or at least it has been in mine. “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” is one of the most famous Charlie  Brown movies to ever come out of the franchise, of course, other than “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” This fun filled movie is just plain cute. It is one of my personal favorites because my favorite character is Snoopy. In this feature, Snoopy has his famous scene as the Red Baron, the flying ace. I wouldn’t say that this movie is scary. In fact, it isn’t scary at all. It’s considered a comedy of sorts and some don’t even consider it a movie but a short film. Either way this cute movie will brighten your Halloween night!

Even if it isn’t Halloween, “Ghostbusters” is still one of the best movies of all time. It is actually hilarious and quite interesting. Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson play the four famous ghostbusters and have become known for their comedic skills over the course of years. Their great acting is combined with a very interesting plot to make a classic Halloween movie perfect for this time of year. Though “Ghostbusters” isn’t my favorite movie of all time, I do believe that it is a fan favorite

4.

Created by the genius that is Alfred Hitchcock, this thriller is sure to keep you on edge. Though many consider “Psycho” to be a horror film, I believe that this movie lacks the effects for it to be considered horror due to how long ago the movie was made (1960). That is not to say that I think this movie isn’t good due to the lack of effects. In fact, I think that this movie should be the basis for all horror movies. I would tell you the plot of this movie, but considering it is a mystery themed movie it’s a lot more fun to watch it without knowing anything before hand. Even though this movie is old, it is still a very good movie to watch at night especially on Halloween.

5.

Though this isn’t a movie I would highly recommend, this mini series is great for the Halloween season. It’s a cartoon, but is very different from other cartoons. “Over the Garden Wall” was created by Patrick McHale who is also the creator of “Adventure Time.” This show is quite different because it has a continuous scary or uneasy vibe throughout the entire show. There are only 12 episodes, each only being ten minutes long. The basic plot of the story is that there are two young boys named Wirt and Greg and they are lost in the Unknown. They get help from a bird named Beatrice. While watching, you really have no clue what’s going to happen. It’s funny and a little scary simultaneously and is really fun to marathon before Halloween actually comes around.

*please keep in mind that this is a newer show that hasn’t had enough time to be fully reviewed yet…especially on rotten tomatoes where the reviews come from the people
