Hurricane Matthew Takes It’s Toll: Oct. 1

While it formed on Sept. 28, Hurricane Mathew swept across the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. and islands such as: Columbia, Cuba,  Haiti, and Jamaica.  Due to its severity, it was categorized as a Category 5 hurricane. It is responsible for over 1,000 deaths and over $6 billion in damages.  The hurricane concluded on Oct. 10.

Galaxy Note 7 Fires Up A Plane: Oct. 5

A passenger’s Galaxy Note 7 smartphone caught on fire during a Southwest flight. This phone replaced the already recalled smartphone, yet it still caught fire.  Samsung released another recall for all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones since this incident.

US Presidential Debates:  Oct. 9, 19 

The two out of three Presidential Debates took place in October.  During the debates, candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump appealed for votes from Americans, who will be voting on Nov. 8.

Ceasefire in Aleppo, Syria: Oct. 20

After the severe bombings of Aleppo, Russia agreed to a humanitarian ceasefire.  The ceasefire ended on Oct. 23 and the bombings have resumed.

Carbon Dioxide Levels Are Higher than Ever Recorded: October 24 

The UN has released a statement that stated the rise in carbon dioxide is due to the burning of fossil fuels.  This creates warming of the the world’s oceans.  If this rise in carbon dioxide continues, it is predicted that oceans will become more acidic, which will be irreversible.
