“Last Christmas, I gave you my heart but the very next day…” Tis the season for Christmas songs, also known as radio station 93.9 or WLIT-FM . Right after Thanksgiving, certain music stations start to play all the best Christmas songs. A lot of the songs get played over and over, but not necessarily the same version. Then again there’s always that song, you just got to turn up because it’s your fav.

There are many songs that have been passed down through generations, in the family, community, or in general. So, here’s a list of songs that have been sung by various artists.

1. “Have yourself a Merry little Christmas,” This song was originally sung in the movie, “Meet me in Saint Louis.” The movie came out in 1944, and Judy Garland was the first person to sing that song. Although soon after came musicians that made covers, such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, James Taylor, Lady Antebellum, and Kelly Clarkson. Even though those artists were extremely talented with their cover, people argue that the orginal is the best. Music Times says, “Sinatra may have made this song the classic that it is today, but there’s still no beating the original. Judy Garland’s song, which comes at a pinnacle moment in Meet Me in St. Louis, is a truly beautiful piece of music. Her simple vocal turn wavers and shakes at all the appropriate time, giving the song a heightened sense of feeling. A truly somber and gorgeous piece of music, there are few better carols out there.” This song is an oldie but a goodie.

2. “Winter Wonderland,” originally composed by Felix Bernard, in 1934. There were some covers by Aretha Franklin, Darlene Love, Radiohead, Jason Mraz, and many more. Entertainment Weekly says, “We end on “Winter Wonderland,” which has been covered by more than 150 artists since it was written in 1934.” Now that it’s snowed, we can really enjoy this song.

3. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” In 1934, Haven Gillepsie gave lyrics to John Frederick Coots, and together they composed a song. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band did a cover, as well as The Crystals, Jackson 5, and Michael Bublé. Music Times says, “Then, the track falls into a total good time song that just oozes of holiday cheer, and that’s what the Christmas season is truly all about.” It’s a great Christmasy song.

4. “Last Christmas.” Originally written by George Michael, and performed by the group Wham in 1984. This is also one of the many songs that’s been covered by other artists such as Jimmy Eat World, Florence and the Machine, Taylor Swift, and Hilary Duff. The Awl says, “Now it’s five years and 485 versions of “Last Christmas” later”‘.

5. “Jingle Bells.” James Lord Pierpont was the writer of this song, and Frank Sinatra added his own little twist to it. “I love those J-I-N-G-L-E bells.” There were The Beatles, and Harry Connick Jr, and The Carpenters, and so many more.

There are so many other songs with a lot of different versions, like, “White Christmas,” “Wonderful Christmastime,” “Rockin around the Christmas Tree,” “Santa Baby.” There’s a whole lot more but, these songs are the ones you will most likely hear on the radio tomorrow.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone!

“Now hurry down the chimney tonight.”
